Welcome to Emily Cates Portraits and artwork . . . .
Emily was born and raised in Amherst MA just outside of the busy college town, on what her Dad called a gentleman's farm.
For the most part they raised Morgan horses, and a few beef critter now and then. Raised with 5 brothers, she spent most of her time in the barn, so horses fast became a part of her early artwork.
She and her twin brother, Paul, turned out to be the artists in the family. Both self taught, Paul went on to create metal sculptur out of old automobile parts, and now is a fine architech and developer, and Emily married, moved to Maine in 1974, raised a son and daughter and developed her painting skills there.
Now that the kids are grown and gone , Emily has more time to devote to her love of painting, especially portraits, but horses are still a passion of hers.
She has entered, and won a few open juried competitions in the Portrait division, locally in Maine.
She has no claim to fame yet, except all of her family and friends that appreciate and enjoy the cherished pieces that hang on their walls.
